Well, I presume that you already have a disciplined wake time, so that you're not letting them sleep in so late in the morning that they don't feel tired by nap time. If not, then of course wake up at the same time everyday.

When I worked at the church daycare (it was a huge daycare with hundreds of kids), we required that every child rest or look at books quietly to themselves for 1 1/2 hour every day during "nap time," if the children dont want to sleep thats fine, but they should not disturb other children and should rest quietly during that time.

Maybe you could have this "quiet time," and most of the children will always end up rested. Good luck sounds like you have your hands full, Super Mom!

My son will be 3 in July and I still believe he needs to nap. If he doesn't he is so cranky around 5ish and than will give us a hard time eating dinner.
I have figured out he doesn't like the word "nap time" so I tell him its time to "rest" and this seems to have work.
Sometimes he will fall asleep other time I hear him in his room playing with is blocks or reading. I think children this young still need some quite time.
Even if your kids aren't "s'eeping" they are calmed down and taking a break.
I usually let me son nap for about 2hr that's if he is sleeping if he is just playing I usually go get him after an hour or so.

Good Luck

Good luck, that's all I can say. I have been dealing with this problem for months with my 2 year old son. He gave up naps at around 18 months and hasn't taken one since, and I have tried EVERYTHING! The bad part is that he is SO overly tired that he always has dark circles under his eyes, and is always crabby. I asked his pediatrician, and she said that he is too independent and can't miss a thing, and basically there is nothing I can do. He usually wakes up at 6 or 630 and is up all day until around 7-730. Good luck though, if you find something that works, let me know!

Yeah - leave Dad in charge! My kids will not nap for me, but when DH is home, they are angels, and they nap for hours!!

In all seriousness, though, I have a friend whose kids would only nap on a sleeping bag on the floor. They pretended to fall asleep, until they were finally pooped and gave in.

My three year old naps at school, because she isn't given a choice...maybe it's time for pre-school a few days a week for your older one.

Good luck!

At the daycare where I work, we put on some soothing music for the kids and then rub their backs until they fall asleep. Most of the little ones are out really quickly and will stay asleep for the 2 hours that they nap.

It sounds like they are good candidates for "rest time". Put them in their rooms--toys, books, music, lights, are all ok, but they can NOT come out for one hour. I did this with all my kids when they dropped a nap. Mommy needs the downtime as much as anyone. Make them stay in there. Spank them if they come out. Ignore crying. Eventually they will catch on that you mean business and this is the way it's going to be. And if they happen to fall asleep, so much the better! :)

No ideas, just unless you force them to lay down in their rooms at specified times with no electronics on.

I've just never understood the need to take naps, I never did when I was a child. Why do they have to? Does it make them smarter or better children? It would seem it would only make it harder for them to go to bed at night. Sorry to ambush your question with more questions but I'm geniunely curious.

in my opinion, i might want the underwater subject matter out of all 3 of them. actuality is, maximum youngster's rooms don't have a topic matter attatched to them, so I undergo in concepts that I enjoyed any room that had some form of subject matter..i'm a woman, so i won't be able to precisely say what a boy might like, yet I undergo in concepts getting inspired with any room that replaced into shiny, colourful, and relaxing to be in. it somewhat is maximum had to get something that your son might like additionally, and that he might savour, even however he's purely 3 a million/2 years previous. do not base your determination on his opinion a hundred% however, provided that he continues to be 3 a million/2 years previous, and is going to have his room (i'm guessing) until he's plenty older. What you would be able to desire to do is get a picture of roughly what his room might appear like, and ask him, "does not you like that!?" If he responds negatively, then he's in all probability not likely to get too excited approximately his new room. yet another advice is which you restoration his room in a manner it is unquestionably changeable. I advise, paint the partitions something greater unbiased, and then incorporate detachable upload-ons to create your subject matter. i'm asserting this so as which you additionally could make his room greater "person", in case he does not like it whilst he's older.. for occasion, in case you need to head with the aquarium scene, don't get great-high priced furnishings with a carved in nemo, and looking out Nemo wallpaper..as a substitute, paint his partitions 2 colorations of blue, get white furnishings, and get a funky looking Nemo lamp, and different little upload-ons like that..
