They pay the light bill.
They pay the rent.
They buy the food and clothes.
Probably a good idea to follow their rules as long as you have to live there.
The cops will take their side, promise.

Sorry but your question seems to show only one side to it. Surely there is a reason why your parents are threatening to take away things you bought with your own money? If not there is a real big problem here. However, it does sound like your parents are of a caring nature blah! blah! blah! No doubt that's what you are thinking??? Perhaps your on your computer and playstation so much you are not attending to your studies or something similar? You may see no point now, I was exactly the same wouldn't listen, ended up in a dead end job envying all my peers and spent half my adult life studying for qualifiations. Believe me it's easier to study when you have no financial outlays and your parents are attending to you hand and foot.Okay I'm babbling on and not answering your question. First of all you don't say where you are posting from so none of us in the community know the laws of your country to give accurate advice. I live in Scotland and it may be interesting to know that here, even compared to the other countries of Gr Britain the law is very liberal to 16yr olds. You even can get married here with out parental consent at 16. Sorry that's the best I can do without knowing where you are from.

Man you are 16 now, Old enough to but playstations and computers, and make it on your own. Right? WRONG. YOUr parents do have that right. What happened to m ake them want to take it away? You must have done something. Take your time about growing up. It is not all it is put out to be. I could not wait to grow up. My daddy use to tell me I was living days of wine and roses did not listen. Now the wines all gone, and they are no more roses. Just enjoy growing up.

Look at it this way. There are alot of unfortunate kids out there where their parents couldnt give a damn if their in or out or safe or otherwise. Your parents care enough to put penalties on you. If you've done something to disrespect their authority then expect the consequences. It may not seem fair to you but in the long run you will understand that they are trying to be good parents and believe it or not have your best interests at heart. Work with them cos when the time comes for you to go out there and fend for yourself you will be thankful for the things they have taught you.

This is a tactic used by Dr. Phil and being a parent myself you don't have rights until you move out and get your own place. I've taken things from our kids and that's the way it goes. Maybe you should move out and get a job, and get a place then you wouldn't have to deal with them, but guess what? The world is a tough place.

Trust me no say in the matters until your 18, actually until you move out. I'm 14 and i'm not allowed to do anything if my parents get the least bit mad at me, and they take away all my privelages, cell phone, psp, mp3, etc. but its all worth it if you have annoying little siblings, because they will be the ones who get tortured with it next, and you get to sit and watch. :)

If you live under their roof then yes they have every right to take these things away from you. It doesn't matter if you bought them with your own money. You need to take responsibility for your actions.

Your parents can make any rules that they like while you are living under their roof, that is why it would be better to get along with them your life would be a lot easier. Good luck

This should pretty well answer that for you.
Don't Mess With Mom
My son came home from school one day,
with a smirk upon his face.
He decided he was smart enough,
to put me in my place.
"Guess what I learned in Civics Two,
that's taught by Mr. Wright?
It's all about the laws today,
The 'Children's Bill of Rights.'
It says I need not clean my room,
don't have to cut my hair.
No one can tell me what to think,
or speak, or what to wear.
I have freedom from religion,
and regardless what you say,
I don't have to bow my head,
and I sure don't have to pray.
I can wear earrings if I want,
and pierce my tongue & nose.
I can read & watch just what I like,
ge tattoos from head to toe.
And if you ever spank me,
I'll charge you with a crime.
I'll back up all my charges,
with the marks on my behind.
Don't you ever touch me,
my body's only for my use,
not for your hugs and kisses, that's just more child abuse.
Don't preach about your morals,
like your Mama did to you.
That's nothing more than mind control,
and it's illegal too!
Mom, I have these children's rights,
so you can't influence me,
or I'll call Children's Services Division,
better known as CSD."
Of course my first instinct was
to toss him out the door.
But the chance to teach him a lesson
made me think a little more.
I mulled it over carefully,
I couldn't let this go.
A smile crept upon my face,
he's messing with a pro.
Next day I took him shopping
at the local Goodwill Store.
I told him, "Pick out aal you want,
there's shirts and pants galore.
I've called and checked with CSD
who said they didn't care
if I bought you K-Mart shoes
instead of Nike Airs.
I've cancelled that appointment
to take your drivers test.
The CSD is unconcered
so I'll decide what's best."
I said "No time to stop and eat,
or pick up stuff to munch.
And tomorrow you can start to learn
to make your own sack lunch.
Just save the raging appetite,
and wait till dinner time.
We're having liver and onions,
a favorite dish of mine."
He asked "Can I please rent a movie,
to watch on my VCR?"
"Sorry, but I sold your TV,
for new tires on my car.
I also rented out your room,
you'll take the couch instead.
The CSD requires
just a roof over your head.
Your clothing won't be trendy now,
I'll choose what we eat.
That allowance that you used to get,
will buy me something neat.
I'm selling off your jet ski,
dirt-bike & roller blades.
Check out the 'Parents Bill of Rights',
its in effect today!
Hey hot shot, are you crying,
Why are you on your knees?
Are you asking God to help you out,
instad of CSD..?"
