A couple of days ago I was sweeping outside, there was dry dirt. I was sweeping it back into the planter, alot of dirt was in the air. well now 2 days later I am coughing and have green stuff coming up when I do. I know thats infection. But could all of that dry dirt in the air that I was breathing in have made me sick?

YES.
The dirt has obviously aggravated an infection if not caused it.

There are many floating mites in the air that can cause havoc in the lungs and throat.
Silicate particles that are an integral part of dust can cause allergic reaction.... during which the body reacts violently as yu have mentioned.

Immediately begin salt water gargling 6 times a day and go to a good doctor to start basic antibiotic treatment and get rid of the infection. If yu are in India.... eat Haldi (Turmeric) in jaggery which is a natural antibiotic and will help your throat as well.

Don't ignore this ........ remember, breathing is very important and it passes straight into the blood, the air that yu breath.

Just to be accurate, the act of sweeping dust cannot make you sick, but inhaling the dust can make you sick.
Dust contains bacteria which enter our lungs and give us the cold, bronchitis, pneumonia and many other lung infections. Some people are allergic to the dust itself.
