Nice....anyway, shore patrol are made up off different rates in the Navy. They are duty personnel that act as military police while in a foreign port or another port than their home port while in the United States. They are just people that have duty that day that make sure Sailors stay in line while visiting another city.
Navy Master-at-Arms, aka the Navy's police, do go to war. They augment the Army and the Marines with their work and have their own work to do with the Navy in Iraq and Afganistan.
If you don't want to do much maybe you should look in being a Yeoman, but they go to Iraq too. Good luck.

To answer your question. The Navy Law Enforcement /MA(Master-at-Arms) rating is the Navy's Law Enforcement/Fleet Protection Force. Yes MA's have been, and continue to be deployed to Iraq, along with other ratings. There are ratings volunteering for the Riverine Warfare squadrons, that are being trained for warfare in Iraq canals and water front areas. MA's are being used for Navy Provisional guard force in detainee operations at various detainee camps across Iraq, as well as training the Iraqi and Kurdish guards for duty in those locations. MA's are also being trained, and used, for convoy escort through out Iraq. The answer to your question is yes Navy Law Enforcement/Fleet Protection forces are being deployed to combat areas. Shore Patrol is not a Law Enforcement force, but an augmentation force to assist the Law Enforcement force with maintaining order when visiting ship personnel are out on liberty.

Shore Patrol is MOSTLY a duty on the WATCH BILL... each department from a ship, or squadron from an air-station is required to supply a certain number of individuals for "shore-patrol"... it is derived from all ratings, and usually from the E-4 to E-6 rates (Petty Officer 3rd to 1st).
I stood SP duty many a time both ashore and on base... it was almost ALWAYS one night... the senior guy would be given a radio to advise the Shore Patrol Officer (often a CPO) as to their status. At NAS North Island, we would walk a beat between the Pizza Club, the E-Club, and the Del Taco... if anything like a fight occured we were to keep people back and radio in for the Master-at-Arms (Base Police).
Master-at-Arms is a Navy RATING (like an Army MOS)... they are trained as cops. They serve aboard ship and at Naval Bases.
As a generality, SP and MA are NOT sent into a combat zone.

Yes, they do. In the Navy ,Shore Patrol is not a rating is it a collateral duty. They have Master at Arms who are the lawmen of the Navy.
They too go on combatant ships and to war. If you want to remain from fighting in a war, start dating guys and wear hideous womens outfits.

Yes absolutly. It would count as experiance for 1 thing after 4 years as a reserve MP many police department would likely consider you a eligable candidate. You will also have the reserve GI bill that you can use to help pay for your education. Just make sure you know what your getting into before joining. Understand that being in the reserves means there is a chance of being deployed and being activated.

DO NOT JOIN THE MILITARY IF YOU ARE SCARED TO FIGHT.
You maybe in for 20 years and never step foot in a combat zone, or you might be in just a few months and be on your way to Iraq. I would imagine Navy MP's are on the ground in Iraq. I know MP's from other branches are.

Yes they do... Unfortunately, there is a need for police everywhere there are military personnel. That includes overseas and shipboard.
Why wouldn't they? Military service is just that. You go where they need you.
And the Air Force is a VERY different breed of military... I'm a Navy Veteran and my husband is Air Force Retired... There have been MANY discussions about the differences between the services and just how easy he had it! ;)

Land? Well I suppose they could be assigned to ports in Iraq, but I really doubt youll see a Navy SF (Security Forces, the Navy MP) in the middle of the desert on the front lines.
