So I wanted to know if I buy this DVD upscaller and connect it to my TV with the component cables will that be in 720p or it will only be in 720p if I use the HDMI cable??

I dont know if it helps but here is the link to what I want to get....

Most upconverting DVD players will not output HD-type video on component outputs. This is because the manufacturer decided not to have that feature, because it certainly is technically possible. In general, (despite what Jefferson says) having the player upconvert the video directly off the DVD disc will produce a higher quality output than having the player convert the digital to analog (which is what component carries), then having the TV set convert that back to digital to do the format conversion.

This is not to say that ALL upconverting players give better results than the TV, but unless you get the cheapest player, that will be the case. Reviewers have reported that the highest-quality upconverting players (very expensive ones) produce pictures nearly as good as HD dvd players. A lot can be done to improve the picture if you are dealing with the signal directly from the disc and keep it in the digital domain.

As someone has said, your solution is to get an HDMI switcher.

According to the manual, it implies that component will not support the upscaling features (720p and 1080i). Generally speaking, component cables can support up to 1080i. In this case, it looks like you will only get up to 480p with component and the Philips DVD player. That seems to be a common theme among upscaling DVD players. In order to get the 720p and 1080i out of your DVD player, you will need HDMI.

If you really want to take advantage of HDMI, then you will need to buy an HDMI switcher. The cheap ones cost around $20-$30. The good ones cost closer to $100.

Everyone that's been saying "component will only pass a 480p signal" is telling you straight...But your HDTV has it's very own BUILT-IN scaler...These usually turn your DVD resolution into something around 960 lines...And HD broadcasts have 1080 lines.

I know the folks at home are coming "unglued" and saying that the "scaler" in HDTVs is really just a "DE-INTERLACER"...This would just turn "480i" into "480p"...But most are ACTUALLY "scan-doublers"...Especially if you've got the "Faruja DCDi" chip in your display.

My point is, you don't need an "up-scale" DVD player...Your PS3 is an actual Blu-ray disc player...It can produce images that far exceed "1080i"...Here's a link that shows the differences in picture quality with simple diagrams and few words...Click right here: http://www.whydoesmyhometheatersuck.com/scanlines.html

And once again, for the folks at home, here's a link to the let the world know why HDMI won't always guarantee the best connection...Click right here: http://www.whydoesmyhometheatersuck.com/hdmi.html

If i am not mistaken, the DVD players that upconvert will only upconvert with the HDMI connection, not the component connection. I think the max you will get out of the DVD component connection is 480p.

You can also but an HDMI switcher like this one and share your one HDMI port:
