It depends on how sensitive the car alarm is.. Mine goes off if a car with a loud exhaust drives by... I drive a 215bhp Glanza Turbo, so I cant afford to leave it any less sensitive...

The answer is dependent on all sorts of things: how well sealed the vehicle with the alarm is, how the shock sensor is mounted and the sensitivity setting on the shock sensor. Car alarms aren't SPL meters.
