It could be for differen't reasons:
1) Your system is starved of resources due to memory intensive apps and system services try turning off some off the ones that aren't critical and see that'll help.
2) spyware or a virus
3) You haven't done a defrag on your computer or cleaned up your temp files and cache.
4) Sometimes a faulty ram stick can be the culprit if you rule out the other causes of why the computer is slow.

The first thing I would do, is check for spyware. Spyware will slow down your PC.
All of these are ones that I personally use and all are free. After you install any of them, make sure you update them to get the full affect.

Spybot - Search & Destroy detects and removes spyware, a relatively new kind of threat not yet covered by common anti-virus applications. Spyware silently tracks your surfing behaviour to create a marketing profile for you that is transmitted without your knowledge to the compilers and sold to advertising companies. If you see new toolbars in your Internet Explorer that you haven't intentionally installed, if your browser crashes inexplicably, or if your home page has been "hijacked" (or changed without your knowledge), your computer is most probably infected with spyware. Even if you don't see the symptoms, your computer may be infected, because more and more spyware is emerging. Spybot-S&D is free.

Do you have a virus ware program on your computer, if so you may need to run a scan on it, or maybe you need to defrag. A good free virus program can be found at; AVGfreevirus.com. Hope that was of some help, also you may need to clean out the cookies your computer has collected/

You might have too much stuff on it. Like downloaded stuff. It takes up so much space. It could also be that you might be becoming a little impatient. What helps me is to try to do something else while I'm waiting on my computer. Like do other work or get some water or whatever.

I had the same problem with my PC and I had to change Windows. I think you should do this too. Or if you have this problem only when you want to use the internet then it's not your PC's fault. It's because your internet is running slow. hope you'll resolve it quick.

-It is possible that you have a spyware or a virus. try to scan your computer. If you found spyware or virus, remove it immediately... but be careful in deleting files. your system might stop working properly if you deleted the wrong files.
-Or you can also delete you temporary internet files.
-You can also try disk clean up from your system tools.

well, if you have alot of downloads then that could be effecting your computers speed.
applications such as aim, bearshare, etc. could be taking up to much disk space.
you need to delete all your applications, and restart your computer, get popup blocker and re download only one of your old applications.
your computer might be too old for too much apliences.
