According to my religious mum...wearing black and having nose piercings. This is a sure sign they have been possessed by a demon. And yes she really believes this.
Here's a few links that list more traditional signs of demonic possession and some related information. Hope this is helpful.

You are king of your own mind. You can be coerced, tempted and persuaded, but you have the power to make the choice. You can say yes or no. No one has that power, but you. In the rare instances of possession, the person is "not in their right mind". Something else has gained control of their minds. That can't happen without a person relinquishing control by an act of the will. On the other hand a lot of folks believe there is no objective reality and open themselves to a reality that is purely fantastic, from their imagination. These are the gullible who are ripe for take over. There is an obvious objective reality and if there weren't, then life on earth would come to a sudden stop. Best advice is to keep your mind centered on objective reality and not allow your imagination to take you on a wild ride.

I went to a Christian summer camp once where they would brainwash us all to believe in God for the next 4 weeks and the woman speaker there told us about how she met a demon possessed person. Certain qualities she described were supernatural strength, changes in voice, the loss of rational thought and that was pretty much all you could tell. I personally don't believe in this crap. I think people didn't know much about mental illnesses back then and the Church judged mental illness as demonic possession.

I guess if a person's head can turn 360 degrees and spew out green pus, its a pretty clear sign?
Every tradition gives their own "signs" : I was at a Charismatic Church last year around November, a pastor started to "divine" that one of the parishioners was "possessed"... it just looked to me to be a lot psycho-suggestion to induce some sort of mass hysteria reaction, coz the "posessed person" showed no supernatural signs.. ie. Spinning heads, floating objects, strong winds in an enclosed area, fireballs, energy bolts..none of that...????
( I think I have been watching way too much horror flicks )

Honey..there is no doubt when one is possessed of the devil.
They explode in anger rages. and have NO control At all.
there downright MEAN.
there is no reason when they turn into a monster.
the demon living inside will make that person do what ever it wants to.
life will be frustrating around such a person.
you will feel helpless.
desperate. they will even appear crazy...sometimes.
they get worse an act up when you try to seek the Lord.
You have to pray and ask Jesus to touch them.
If you know such a poor individual helping them is useless.
Go to the Lord...Jesus. he already KNOWS.
He is an IMMEDIATE HELP in times of trouble.
He or she needs deliverance.
Proverbs 12:15
Fools think they need no advice
BUT the wise listen to others.

It's kind of like watching someone square dance while inside a blender. It's charming, in my opinion, but that's just me.

I don't believe that people are possessed. I think many religions look a mental illness and call it possession.

speaking in a voice that isn't his, doing the supernatural freaky things, weakening the person...well, basically what happened in the exorcist but God is more powerful than the devil no matter what happens!;)
