You can take the "Blue Line" train from the 7th Street Metro station directly to Long Beach. Do not stop anywhere on the line and get off at the turnaround point in Long Beach. Pay attention to the return trains, especially later in the evening if you decide to spend the day in Long Beach, as several of them do not return directly to the 7th Street Metro station but end somewhere down the line (due to maintenance).
It is also possible to take the Blue Line train to the Green Line transfer station (Imperial Highway stop), head toward "Redondo Beach" and get off at Aviation Blvd. There you can transfer to an MTA bus which will take you to the South Bay area (Redondo, Hermosa and Manhattan beaches).
In each case, make certain to buy the $3.00 pass which will entitle you to ride on all MTA buses and trains for the entire day. Have fun!
