I heard the calendar ends 12/12/12 - but I don't think the world will end. I do think we are at a crossroads, though and I think the world is changing dramatically. The end of the world as we know it, perhaps, but not doom.
Peace!

It seems people have been predicting the end of the world since quite nearly its beginning. Predictions of the end come each year, and each year they're wrong. Why all the predictions? Because when we face our own mortality it's sometimes more comforting to face it collectively. The "end of the world" we all will face is the personal end of the world that will happen for each of us and which we call death. So is your end coming? Indeed, I can guarantee it, but it won't likely come at the hands of a Mayan calendar.
I wouldn't give the Mayans anymore credence than any other human mystical predictors. After all, the Mayans are obviously wrong -- their "world" ended several hundred years too early -- they didn't live to see the end of their own predictions. (Of course, descendants of the Mayans are still around, but that's a whole other topic...)
Now, global warming. Is it a threat? You bet. By 2012? Not a chance. Is humanity ever going to be completely wiped out by global warming? Nope. Could there be massive death, displacement, and suffering? Indeed. You probably won't live to see it, but your children will unless we get our act together.

I don't know why the Mayan calender ended at 2012 . Luck ? But it is close. The bible teaches that we can not know the day or the hour . It does however say that we are to know the "season" . The season is between 2013 and 2020. That is because we don't know if Daniels "week " or Revelations shortening of Satan's presence on earth to five months has been subtracted from a prophesy of 72 years that was to be added to 1948 or not. I know that this sound dubious . But i have the explanations but am too lethargic to explain it here .
Maybe email? btw the world never ends it just changes . it will always be here.

global warming is going to take a little longer than five years to wipe us out. Especially now since we know it is happening and there is a contest to give someone $1 million if they can find a way to stop global warming. Also, the mayan calender is not very reliable. Notice that there are no mayans around. You may hear about the days that correspond to real days and real world events, but the mayan calendar has a lot of days. There are bound to be some similarities. Plus a lot of those entries are so vague they can apply to almost any day. "The people are distanced from there leaders" Applies to the civil war, except we have been distanced from our leaders for a couple hundred years. I wouldn't worry about it

I don't know enough about it, but I'm quite skeptical. I have friends who believe it though. And as far as some respondents here, the Myan descendants still exist. If you read the news you would know that the Mayans are preparing to conduct cleansing rituals following George Bushs' visit next week to their holy site. They want to purify the site after Bush contaminates it. Way to go Myans! They see who Bush really is.

Things are sure winding down....
The exact day when this age will come to an end, or a beginning, depending on your point of view, will be exactly 3 1/2 days after the two witnesses are killed in an arena set up in Jerusalem.
This global warning scare is ridiculous at best. I wouldn't listen to al gore if he said the sky was blue.

The 2012 is was how far the Mayan culture could see into the future before their own destruction. The 2012 date is not what you want to focus on. We all should be focused on what our own government is doing to bring terrors of unimaginable proportions. We have yet to write our own history. The are many prophesies of the future. Prophecies are not predictions they are probable futures that can still be change.
It is prediction that most concern me in this modern time. Prediction is always of a negative nature because who needs to be for warned of good things? Predictions are most useful as a tool to measure how well we are managing our planet. Each bad thing that happens is like getting a bad grade in handling our responsibility to each other and to our planet.

Before that dreadful day of the Lord.
the faithful will be raptured....BECAUSE.
EVEN His ELITE might fall away...that's why the rapture.
The demonic presents will become over powering.
because of the evil....anti-Christ
Then when the Christin's are gone...OOo God.
I sure don't want to be here.
We have to remember...life is but a VAPOR.
Eternity is FOREVER and ever and ever....there is no end.

Iv heard of this ,but i think it may mean the end as we know it,maybe the end of lots of lives for the big change to happen. And because of pollution from war we may be forced back to basics which in turn would benefit us who are still here and benefit the planet.
In a dream i saw polluted waters, and land were we couldnt grow anything, causing famine for all.Bacause of war.
