He wants the World Bank to forgive all debts, not the US. The World Bank is a predatory lender, they take advantage of 3rd world nations poverty for their own benefit. The point is not for the third world nations to ever have the ability to pay them back. The World Bank wants third world nations to be indebted to them indefinitely. When they can't pay back they are forced to sell their debt to the IMF at high interest. The IMF sells off a nations resources to international corporations. In Cochabamba Brazil, Bechtel bought the water rights and forced poor people to pay outrageous amounts for water. There were riots and the people got their water back. What the World Bank and the IMF do is unethical and predatory.
Long story short, it's like if your sister lends you money because you are about to lose your house, but she knows you will never be able to pay her back, and she doesn't care because it gives her an excuse to boss you around and make you feel guilty all the time.

Yes, I like Bono. I also like U2's music. ;^)
I admire him for trying to make the world a better place. He's someone who using the fame he's been given to make a change.
I get sick and tired of all the celebs who piss and moan about how terrible the world is, but then don't bother to do anything about it. Bono may get obnoxious to some people, but hey, he's trying.
Think of it this way. You're starving. you have no home. You need cash desperately. You borrow some. You're not sure how you're going to pay it back. You eat, sleep somewhere, try to get a job. There aren't any jobs. You might have to borrow more money.
That's how countries get into such terrible debt. They need stuff NOW. They can't sit around until they know they can pay back their debts. In some cases, it would be decades or longer before they could pay back their debts. People all over the world are dying because of poverty. People like Bono are trying to help these people get back on their feet. It's a difficult battle, considering the economy in most countries. I'm talking about America as well. There is parylizing poverty here. Should these people not borrow money to eat and have shelter simply because they don't know when they'll be able to pay it back?

He's a sell out wuss. I liked him better when he consentrated on Irish strife.
Why does everyone feel in order to have a cause, it should be to help the third world when they very clearly have no intention to ever help themselves though they have been taught and instructed and helped over and over and over by the West..
all they look for is their next hand out while they have no intention of 'learning how to fish', whether they just can't or won't is up to debate.
I don't understand why he wants putrid people guilty of countless and consistant human rights violations to multiply by the gazillions,
while the Western world is told to constantly assist them to do so by forking over money and AID, all the while told we are to curb OUR numbers!
Well, if the west isn't there having children,
just who WILL Bail these scuzzy countries out in the future?
