Yes, God does help a person see himself for what they really are. If a person is sincere about getting to know God, he will be able to see into himself more clearly and honestly. I believe that when one follows Christ and His teachings, he gets the benefit of having the Holy Spirit as well, which governs ones conscience. Listening to God through our conscience as He convicts us of our wrongs gives us the direction in which God intends for our life to go. This is how we can know God's will in our lives individually. No two people are exactly alike, just like no two branches of any tree are exactly alike. That is what is meant by His words from the Bible in John 15 verse 5 where he says, "I am the vine, you are the branches." Since all people, like branches on a vine, are different, we all have different jobs to do, but all serving the same purpose of bringing praise to Him. And as the vine, He is showing how He is to be the main source of everything with us branching out in service to Him. We must first realize that we are what we are and that He has made us. Rather than to call pretenders as "fakers" you really should call them as they are, hypocrites. That is the word from the Word. Anyone who professes to follow Christ and acts contrary to His teachings are not truly what they say they are. He also tells us in Romans 11 verse 16 that if the roots are holy, so be the branches. Therefore it is safe to assume that if the roots are not holy, neither are the branches. Be careful not to judge, but use proper wisdom to discern whether the "roots are holy" or not. It is deceiving to profess to being something that one is not. We might figure someone like that out in due time, but God already knows.

I don't know of anyone who is a born again believer that has not experienced striking changes in their lives.
They have shown love, joy and peace abundantly.
They have become more patient, gentle and kind.
They cease to be self centered and become others centered.
They put up the drugs or alcohol or illicit sex, and become devoted to their God and to helping their neighbor.

I think we find ourselves when we find God in my opinion but others feel different. after all God made man and women in his own image so I would say finding God would be like finding a purpuse.

I like this verse better...this is Jesus speaking: "whoever seeks to keep their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for my sake...will find it". I am discovering the more of my life I give up, surrender, the more my "true self" I become.

Do you do your job better when you know your boss? Yes.
I was created with a purpose. I am to reflect God's glory. How can I know myself and reach my full potential if I don't know my purpose? How can I reflect something that I don't know or can't see?
If I am created in His image, then knowing Him leads me to know myself.
The answer is absolutely, "yes."
