Go to a nursing home and do volunteer work. Volunteer at the local shelter. Volunteer at your library to teach someone to read. Teach a man to fish. Volunteer to help.

The world needs more empathetic people like yourself and I see where your coming from. We have 24/7 news every day and when I watch it, I become very down. I worry about our country and the world at large. BUT you can make a difference, but you have to realize that what you do to help someone does make a difference. Giving money to a homeless person on the street is more than likely going to be put on drugs and alchol. So if you spend your time and money helping organizations who work every day at trying to make a difference, you will feel more satisfied. There are so many things to do like some others have mentioned. The nursing homes, hospitals, libraries, children groups at church and our Veterans need someone to talk to who have been severly injured in the war. If you just use your time wisely, then you can lay your head on the pillow and tell yourself "you did your best and be proud of yourself"
Remember to vote on officials who you think cares about the issues you care about. Good Luck and God Bless

How you can make a difference?
You can't do it individually. You need a team of workers, if possible expand the team and become regional. If you really are interested to make it big to help spread the peace and love.
You will have to have teamwork and not just based on your single hardwork.
I believe that you have the passion to help those peopl out there and will do all you can. So i hope that you can start a strong base team and slowly build up and help each one along the way even if it means slow progress.
Do visit my blog at http://www.myempoweringchime.com to read ..haha yup.. i'll see you on the inside.

It sounds like you have already been a giving person, based upon your chosen profession.
Just by being involved, you are already making a difference. In order to get more "hands on" with activities in your community, contact your local volunteer center. They have the resources to connect you with non-profit agencies and other volunteer projects that match your interests and goals.

It doesn't take a lot to make a difference in someone's life. You are already doing it on a daily basis. However, if you want to get more deeply involved, check with your volunteer center or the United Way to match you up with contacts at the local homeless shelters, community center, and other activities in which you can provide some front-line assistance to others.
Good luck!

Be a mentor. A court advocate for children. Be active in your church. Stop giving to people on the street and instead find a shelter to donate your time and money to. There are so many ways to make a difference. BUT be realistic, you can not stop it all you can only do your best.
Stop letting your past and current conditions eat you up inside. It does you nor anyone else any good.
Seek out help for yourself, someone to counsel you and help you thru the trying times.
Do not let your past cloud your judgment on current situations.
Good Luck and God Keep You.

I love your emotion, but channel it wisely or you'll become a nervous wreck. In your case, I'd think it wise to take a break and care for yourself. Maybe re-evaluate your job since it seems like this is all you see.
Find something positive and cling to it. Don't allow the media and your life story break your own heart.

The human dilemma. Having empathy but knowing one can't help everyone.
Solution (partial) be nice to the people around you and treat people like your pets, or how YOU would like to be treated. Result, a better world (hmm being an optimist) ;-)

don't give up, i won't
i feel the same way when i see people, or hear about things happening. I always think, how can people be so heartless? but that's life, we're always going to see things we don't like, its tough but we can't give up. we can all change everything.
