I wouldn't leave a 1 year old baby for a week. They are really too young to understand that long of an absence. The psychologist Bowlby (famous for starting the Attachment Theory) said that a 3 day or longer absence can be very traumatic for a child that young. I personally couldn't do it (especially since I've always still been breastfeeding at that age).
I would either take my baby or find somewhere closer to home to take a vacation.

Because you are suggesting that you are traveling to a foreign country my suggestion would be to leave baby at home with dad for the following reasons.
- Immunity ( your child still has a weak immune system and exposure to new germs against which he/ she isn't vaccininated isnt a good idea) montezuma's revenge is uncomfortable inan adult but can be lethal in a baby !
-Illness if your child becomes ill you will not have the same level of medical care or ability to communicate with MD's as you would at home
-Exposure - many countries do not have the restrictions on Lead and Mercury that we do and you could inadvertantly expose baby to toxic levels of these substances.
- Inconvenience Baby wont be comfortable and thereby neither will you. Let a young baby stay in familiar and safe surroundings while you do or go where you have to . It doesn't make you a bad mom it makes you cautious and in my opinion smart !

When my sister was almost a year old we went to Norway. ( she is now 31) Nothing is wrong with taking a baby on a trip over seas. Go for it! I would never leave my baby at that age that long. Even if it was with my Hubby!

Traveling is hard on babies, when my child was 8 months old we went on a roadtrip for my sisters wedding. I drove at night so he could sleep, but I didn't manage to ever make up for the lack of sleep. He cried throughout the entire wedding ceremony because I couldn't hold him as I was a bridesmaid. We were constantly on the go - visiting relatives and such and we never got a chance to just relax - he was miserable the whole time.

I would leave her. What a great way to show your husband you love and trust him, and take a break for yourself. I know it will not be easy, but I think you should go for it. I left my baby for a weekend with d.h. to take my older daughter on an outing when baby was about a month old. Some people said "good for me", but some were critical and tried to imply I was a bad mom, so be prepared for criticism if you do this.

This is up to you. My husband and I went on an anniversary trip for 4 days when our son was 22 months old. We left him with my husbands parents and he did fine. I on the other hand was trying to call every few hours lol.

I would leave the baby home so you can really enjoy your trip. I went away for a long weekend when my baby was 2 months old because it was a great opportunity. I missed her alot but is was great fun regardless.
