The humble will be exhalted, and the exhalted will be humbled. It is all in the Bible.

Sorry, I'm just trying to get the picture of all those "proud loos" out of my head....
Ahem, but seriously. As far as I can see there are very few truly humble people in the world. In most cases it is more a Uriah Heep kind of humility which, as Mr Dickens was so kind as to point out to us, just gets you locked up in the end, even if it's only metaphorically.
Like it or not, very little would be achieved in this world without pride and selfishness, for these are often the very qualities which spur people on to do things which have never been done before. Nothing motivates quite so much as being laughed at and told "it can't be done."

Moderation is the key.
Self-centered is not quite the same as having pride.
Perhaps the words were similar in Biblical times.
If a person is too self-centered, self-absorbed etc their focus is predominantly on themselves, with little or no time/concern etc for anyone else. This imbalance is not healthy nor productive to man.
Pride on the other hand (my opinion only) is believing in yourself, having self-worth and a love/acceptance of self.
Alot of people lack pride in this manner and it is devastating to the human psyche.
I teach people to stand tall, be proud of who they are and no matter how many knocks we get in life from other people, we wont let negativity overcome and defeat us.

It depends. History shows a lot of proud men who died with their world in flames around them (Hitler, Calligula). Some went on with their miserable lives and made those around them suffer (Cesaer Augustus, Henry VIII).
Men have pride from a variety of reasons, but usually indugence and power rank in there. The cure is often having power taken away from them by force or illness.

Like the arrogant nation of America? We will just have to wait and see. It took Rome over four centuries to fall, when will the revived rome fall. Probably when the boomers start kicking off.

Screw you man,
I am very proud of everything I have achieved in life because I worked very hard to get where I am today, so I think I'm entitled to feel a little proud.
