in Beijing you've got to visit the great wall and the forbidden city. then there's a number of other historical temples you can go to - which are so-so. for shopping, go to yashow market (ask concierge) that's where they all knock-off goods. also at silk market, but i prefer the former.
in Shanghai, there's the Bund area... and that's pretty much it. not that interesting in my opinion - you should've signed up for Xian instead - that's an ancient walled city and that where they have the teracotta warriors. Taipei, i was just there a 2 days ago... it was pretty lame. There's the Chiang Kai Shek Park and the Taipei 101 - which is currently the tallest building in the world. Everything else was blah.
I love Hong Kong - it's like a second home to me. There's Ocean Park, Hong Kong Disney, Victorea Peak and that cable car service that tours you around the islands. It's not a place with a lot of sightseeing stuff, it's a plce for shopping and eating.
I stayed in the Six Senses resort in Nha Trang. The resort was beautiful, and that's pretty much it. Haha. I went to the 'market' one day and that was an hour of my life wasted. They sold big white corals from the sea for a bargain and I wanted those, except that they're illegal.
I stayed in the Park Hyatt in Ho Chi Minh - and that was also a beautiful hotel, but that was pretty much it. Oh, actually, I went to the market there and was able to buy this cool marble buddha bust for like USD 9 (bargained hard though). Do pick-up nice souvenirs. You should've chosen to go to Hanoi instead - it's prettier in general.
Singapore... i hate Singapore. I hate Singlish - which is their version of english. and the entire island could be travelled by car within 2 hours. there's one strip of road called orchard and that's where you find all the malls. there's Sentosa Island where you find the most pathetic man-made beach... there's a night safari... maybe that's cool - i never went.
In Bangkok, go to the Old town where they have the palace and temples. There's also the Jim Thompson House and Chatuchak Market (huge weekend market) - you should check that out. There's a cool resto/bar called Vertigo, for the evening.
You know, you should've included Siem Reap, Cambodia in your itinerary - instead of Singapore or Taipei. The Angkor Wat complex is very nice and much worth seeing than either of those 2 cities.
Goodluck!

I don't know for other places but I'm know in Thailand is very good people and good heart.
Bangkok, calld "Krung-Tep" by the Thais themselves.
Krung-Tep means is "city of Angles" Bangkok is often called the "Venice of the East" because of it's various "klong" or canals.
One fifth of the population lives in little huts along the banks, transacting their daily business on the waterway themselves.
Laem Chabang not is place in Bangkok, but is district of Chon bury province and Laem Chabang that A "World Class" port. The main port of Thailand.
Chiang Mai is province of Thailand too.

I would say that you read hotel reviews if you are planning to stay on hotels for good comments.
Visit some websites that has tourists informations on the places you are going to visit and talk to other fellow plane passengers, sometimes they are the ones who give helpful information because they live or work there.
Have a nice trip.

oh too bad you'll miss the philippines. try spending a few days there so you could see a lot of scenic places and warm friendly people.what you get to see in those places would never suffice to what you'll be having in the philippines.
