Many peers of the realm were poor. They had titles but they had sold off much of their land and possessions to support their extravagant living and gambling. Even if you were in dire straights, it was still expected that you would appear to be affluent, so many aristocrats were forced into debt just to maintain the appearance of their station in life. I, also, can trace my lineage back to several royal lines, but there did not seem to be any trickle down coming my way.

I have no way to know why you are poor TODAY.
But if any thing to be learn in your peculiar case is that we must become the Masters of Our Own Destiny, forget about the past.
Therefore, you must make your own wealth and name, so may be... some time ... in the future your descendants could honor you and remember you in a glorious way.
