I think you all need to get out a bit more or if your adament about staying in the "Spiritual Dept. of Answers, then let God open your eyes & ears see what people are saying.
You know, this is not a rehersal for life, it's the real Deal.
So if you will, if you can,
'please ask God to open your ears & eyes about Him by the Holy Spirit.' It's a pretty simple thing to say, that if you mean it, it will take you to more joy than anything in this earth could give ever.

Are 99% of people Christian because their family is Christian? Any of you Christians from an atheist family?

Wow Walter! Wow
I am so sorry to hear of your tragic losses. & soo happy youv'e kept running the race.
I have had it pretty tough too..... just a tiny peak into my secret past-smile-
Myself,? my father has always called himself an athiest so my mother told me. He came back in a straight jacket from vietnam when I was 1 month old & his actions proved to me he didn't know an all Loving God.
Although divorced when I was 13, my mother agrees with him.
They would live on the other side of Austalia, if he's even alive at all! I am trying to find out through Vietnam Vets CS. Other attempts have left me up a dry dusty road.
So & I say this with tears of happy-sadness, only because of what I wrote above,
It was God who led me to Himself. I had to do the walking though. He is just the most Loving, Caring & Compassionate Heavenly Father one could be so , so blessed to know.

1 Corinthians 1:18-19
For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. For it is written: "I will destroy the wisdom of the wise; the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate.

I am a Christian whose only other Christian relatives are cousins I have lost contact with who had no formative influence on me at all. None of my siblings is Christian - there is one wiccan, one "I don't know if He exists because I've been hurt", one who is a real louse who I will not even discuss further, plus an atheist. My mother was a Christian Scientist (not really Christian, do not share the rituals, do not believe in the Divinity of Christ) and my Father was an Atheist. Deceased Grandparents on my mother's side religious but did not know them - father's parents - she a Christian Scientist, he an agnostic who tried to believe in Christ at the end, and although I would like to think he did, I am not sure of that - I know he wanted to. None of my friends thru my age of 29 was a Christian to my knowledge. In fact, my idea was that there was so much fighting among my parents over religion, with so many tearful sessions as my dad would bash Mary Baker Eddy that I decided I would be "A-religious", that is, to purge the concept of religion out of my character, personality and life (even though I still very much believed in a generic God), only just concentrating on things I liked, like girls (LOL), music, baseball, horses, reading, science, Hitchcock/old movie stuff, etc.
Then while in Hollywood in my attempt for fame and fortune the Holy Spirit came to me, opened my eyes and let me understand the reality of Christ dying on the Cross to save me, all the while giving me a hunger to read the Bible cover-to-cover, which I did, and then several key parts again three-four times in succession in a month-long "sitting". In fact, some friends I knew prior to my conversion had formerly asked me to open a house of ill repute/talk to the Mafia about franchising a bookie operation with us all as partners, but after my conversion I told them all off and moved on to other friends who were spiritual. I have not looked back since; and though even since that time I have lost my beautiful only child Sandra (disease so rare it was named after my last name) and a loving wife Barbara (brain cancer) I know I am truly blessed and daily give thanks to the Lord for rescuing me from that hell-hole that calls itself Hollywood.
So that's my story. IF I got this far, any one can.
Glory to God in the Highest Heaven and Peace on Earth Goodwill to Men (and Women too LOL!)

First of all:
"..let God open your eyes..."
Do you understand an atheist does not believe there is a god?
I categorize Christians in two groups:
The ones who believe what they believe without having to force their beliefs on others, and recognize that what they have is *faith*, not *fact*. Those Christians I have no issue with at all.
And...
The ones who feel that they, and ONLY they, are on the right spiritual path, and have a direct line to god and know just what god wants and are more than willing to tell all and sundry what that is, and feel that the dictates of their religion should serve all of human kind. Those Christians I have BIG problems with.

..... *Praying* "Shinigami open her mind and show her how loving you are. Thank you My lady." OK. now that I've praied to my Godess.... I think you should rethink the path you are taking by asking this question. Does a Pagan group come to your door and Bang on it till it almost falls over then talks to you for 4-5 hours about what they believe and how you should believe it too? NO. DO you have to go to the questions that are Athiest?.... NO. Does the dif. of reliagon around the world prove that there is not only one god. No. But I sure as Shinigami Don't want to knee before a God that told his people to kill Inacintes. I like my godess thank you. She may be of Death But from Death breaths Life.

I'm trying to listen to what you're saying, but I can't actually work out what all of that means.
What I will say is that I ask questions here because I would like to know what different people think and feel, but that's a little difficult when most of what I get back is rehashed rhetoric and quotes. As I have said before, if that's what I get, that's what I have to base my opinions on.

No, I am aware there are many types of christians. although before I started posting here I couldn't have imagined that one faith could disagree so bitterly and in so many ways about what god wants. You'd think a god would leave less of his message to us humans so open to so wide a variety of interpretations!
Catholics, protestants, the list of subgroups is long and endless.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timeline_of_Christianity
but to me they still all believe in some bipolar sky daddy, sorry.
Here are my general rules for meeting christians:
- if you deny evolution, I do not consider you a rational human being
- if you believe in a young earth, I do not consider you a rational human being
- If you do not believe humanity evolved from earlier forms (as opposed to the genesis story) I do not consider you a rational human being
- if you think homosexuality is in any way a choice or sin, I do not consider you a rational human being

You've just lumped Athiests into a box, which is what you accuse us of doing to Christians. Now you know how we feel. See? You're just like us.
You really need to proofread your questions for grammatical and logical mistakes. It might help if you let your mommy look at your questions before you submit them.

I prefer reality to fairy tales. If you need your imaginary friend to survive through life, then that's sad for you, but not everyone is that dependent and weak minded. Quit proselytizing at us and trying to make us like you. You need to get out a bit more or accept that we're all different, in your words.
Edit : I really don't care to hear your sob story or life story either. If You're going to act like a hypocrite and put us in a box after asking us not to do that do you...no one is going to take you seriously. I know I don't.

Amen to that. I was an agnostic for a long time and I had a really, really great life. But I had absolutely no idea what happiness or joy meant until my eyes and ears were opened.
I also don't understand why anyone would intentionally log onto the "Religion and Spirituality" site and then tell you not to talk about religion.
God bless.

I dont compartmentalize christians. I do know that you are not all of the same belief.
You are right. This is not a rehersal for life. This is all we have. WE are the ones that know that. There is no afterlife.
