most of the time you dont even get to take them home with you while your in the military. actually i dont think there is a case where you can but i put most for fear of being wrong lol....im a military spouse and i know that on the base i live on all personnel that carry weapons have to turn them in at the end of their shift.

You aren't issued a weapon for your entire career. When you require a weapon you are given one. Otherwise you aren't carrying a weapon. All ammo and weapons have to be accounted for and therefore the armed forces don't "give out" these things.

When you leave the armed forces, you are required to return everything issued to you except your clothes and toiletry items.

Items issued to you are property of the U.S. tax payer.

If anything is missing, you have to pay for it.

Uh, no, silly. There is no reason to have civilians in possession of fully automatic weapons. They are property of the US taxpayers, but only used by military forces.
