I assume that as long as you dont go over your calorie expenditure with the sugar it wont turn to fat.

No. All sugar does not turn to fat. Only excess sugar is stored as fat (this is due to prehistoric times and famines).

If you are an active person, it will burn off. Of course, like you said, you don't want to over do it. Coaches encourage sugar for short term energy. If you overload on sugar, I would highly suggest working out to burn it off. Unfortunately, it won't burn off if you just sit on you rear...It would make it a lot easier :P

No, you burn off some for engery and in winter to keep warm. If you exercise in any form you burn a lot of sugar.

It doesn't have to. Some of it is used for energy.
