Since it was mostly gay priests who molested kids, should the Catholic church ban gays from the priesthood?

Women are banned, so are the disabled. Yes, there should be higher standards for a Priest. It is wrong by Catholic Doctrine to discriminate against homosexuals. However, this doesn't give them the keys to Priesthood either.

I remember JPII's funeral where a man without arms spoke about his desire to be a Priest and was denied specifically because he didn't have arms. He became a musician (played with feet) and this brough him audience in front of JPII (we love u) and to jails, and churches. When he reflected back, although God closed the door he opened a window; and this man got to do everthing he wanted as a Priest, but instead he did it as a muscian.

I personally believe that anyone who is gay should not be allowed to be a priest. That is a position of leadership within the church to point others to Christ. What sort of an example is it to allow someone who is gay to hold such authority within the church? The Bible does not condone homosexuality any more so than it condones any other sin, possession for example. I feel that all religions should ban gays from priesthood or the position of church pastor. As for the molestation issues, that sort of sickness and deviate behavior is also found in those who claim to be straight. I don't think being gay is the problem there. A sick person is a sick person, gay or straight. Being gay is not a prerequisite.

Even Jesus had his Judas. The percentage of molesters is the same across the board in all walks of life. In The Catholic Church it is less than 4% of the priesthood. That's not much (too much but, statistically not). The person that talked of the Seminaries had a good answer but, it is all connected to the Bishops in these diocese where the majority of this happened. I like to call it a Staff Infection.

I believe that even if they ban'em it is still difficult to find out for shure catholic, non catholic churches I really feel its a matter of being a good human being in all aspects of life and definitely being honest and play a real priesting role among communities, this comment not trying to say there are not good priests sons of the lord up there.

Gays do not molest children and gay priests do not molest children. Child molesters molest children. Since religious fanatics lump anything they do not like into one category it is understandable that you have no idea what you are talking about. Molesting children is something on its own. Most molesters are in fact married or have long term relationships with women, until they get caught and then most women don't want to have much to do with them anymore. And it is like being an alcoholic - if you are an alcoholic you will be until they day you die. You may not ever drink again, but you are an alcoholic. A child molester is a child molester until the day they die. With discipline they may never molest, but they are until they die.

not sure if it was gay priests who molested the kids, however one thing I know they should ban gays from the priesthood anyway, because the Bible says, homosexuality is an abomination to God. You don't have to be gay to molest kids. Priests are not supposed to have sex and I think that they get frustrated and need to have sex but they can't do it openly. so they prey on little kids, innocent kids who will more than likely not say anything. i mean come on, little kids are trusting and naive and want to believe what older people say, especially people in authority or church positions. so i don't think they should ban gay priests because they are not the problem with the priesthood. or at least not the big problem.

for some reason you can be a petaphile without being gay(it doesn't make much sense but it's true) so technically most of the priests were straight, just petaphiles.
