Can you give a brief description of each place as you see it, as well as a few of the pros and cons of living in either of these two coastal areas of beachfront LA and Orange County?

Laguna is prettier, lots of great cliff views of the beach, cleaner, a more ritzy area, more expensive shops, etc. Santa Monica is funner, lots of shopping, restaurants, street performers, but more homeless people. I think Santa Monica would be more affordable, funner, and less snobby to live.

Santa Monica is more ethnic & urban. Generally, it is more crowded and has more unusual characters but can be fun. Laguna is in South OC and is generally viewed as upscale and trendy. Overall I prefer the mid OC beaches as a good ballance such as Huntington or Newport. As for LA area beaches, I recommend Malibu or Redondo as middle of the road areas. If you want to see all of the OC beaches the OCTA (transit system) runs a great bus service; Route 1 which travels all the way down PCH from Long Beach in LA county through all of Orange county (Including Laguna) and into the tip of San Diego County at the end of San Clemente (OC's last beach) near Camp Pendelton. The cost of the trip $1.25!

Laguna is definitely prettier, and I like it more. But Santa Monica has so much more to do, and it's close to Venice, which on weekends is a really awesome place to visit. I'd rather live in Laguna though.

Laguna Beach might be prettier - but Santa Monica is more fun and more down to earth.

Laguna prettier, Santa Monica more fun.....but to live----- the one closest to your job would be best...they both are nice but long L.A. drives to work are not fun....

i love both. You have to figure out which one works the best for yourself. I would choose Santa Monica. but on the other hand Lugana Beach is great and I think more beautiful.

Santa Barbara is appealing. it somewhat is advantageous and close to to the coastline and the mountains...and it DOES have a youthful environment. there is college of California at Santa Barbara there! college scholars and their little ones. don't be responsive to precisely how plenty youthful you will get. appealing city. =]
