I can't find any similar questions asked.. how to make a parrot happy. Yes, toys, and attention... but specifics? My yellow nape loves to talk and sit and eat and finally getting into cuddling... but only tollerates a little at a time. Loves to just sit behind my chair and watch me type. I got a separate movable perch so she can watch TV with me and be with me, but I'm thinking that it's not enough stimulation. Other than when I "manhandle" her or when she's wants to pick on my daughters (they don't like her), then she is content to just stay put, but I've noticed that the more I interact with her, the nicer she becomes. I want MORE.
She mock growls at me and sounds like a slow noisy air leak for some reason... so I take it that I still have a little ways to go. (I've had her for about 10months and she's about 20yo) I love her to death so I want to do the best for her. I've got the food angle covered and trying to get the toys.
Specific ideas to amuse and interact more with her?

About the mating comment: I have a cockatiel.. he doesn't like her AND I got him first. (both from my brother). they like to 'talk' (whistle in turn) but otherwise they ignore each other. Now is mating season and she tries to get off on her hanging toy and make a squeaking sound with her tail up to the toy but otherwise, I don't encourage the mating signs. Another amazon??? already have 2 dogs, cat and two birds... the animals are already out equaling the number of our family. Thanks for the thought.

First of all,I used to have a yellow nape. He died a bit over a month ago. Yellow napes are known to be moody and bite (He got my dad pretty good a couple times). Since she likes to watch you type, I would just let her watch you type. As for the daughters problem, I would make them PRETEND to like her and then she will stop. As for interacting, devote time to playing with her, talking to her, and giving her a lot of attention.
Good luck!!

I have two close friends that work with birds, one is a vet, the other an avian zookeeper. They always say a Parrot is like a 2 year old that lives for 100 years. Any kind of positive attention it is going to love, but they need almost CONSTANT attention to be happy. In other words, to keep your parrot happy, work hard. Talk to him even when you aren't really talking to him (Look at him when you're on the phone or reading a book out loud, etc). Like a 2 year old they do need breaks too. Train him and he will be happy and so will you!

Pick out a friend with your bird! Another bird, sometimes birds get lonely and the want the company of another bird. Your bird is getting older and as they age they begin to want and desire a mate!

You probably need to spend more time with her. Let me tell you, parrots need alot of attention or they will become very fierce. They make ALOT of noise. So try to keep this under control. Hope I helped!

Aww, you're a sturdy caretaker. they're advantageous with one yet another, yet pick the occasional injury with their proprietor. no could entertain them once you at the instant are not there, in simple terms be sure that they are nicely dealt with once you at the instant are not there.
