How do they capture video from TV, and encode it later, like "lol" and "xor" releases for example?

i know the hardware part, i mean the settings. the codecs and the software they use (virdub?).

They use devices called TV tuners which either plug into the PCI port of the desktop or they are USB. The devices hook up coaxial cable so they basically get cable. Then, through software, they can record shows, edit out commercials, and upload to torrent sites and P2P networks.
