Tate Out of all these fighters only Michael Dokes deserved to be a world champion because the rest of these guys were lucky to be world champion M. Weaver B.Sheldon . There is a lot of talent on this list but you could not bet on any of them some would over eat some would not fight some could not fight and some of them came alone at the right time when there was not much talent in the heavy weight division like right now god job on putting this list of fighters together Tony Tucker and I fought on the same team as light heavy weights in 1978 we never fought each other.

A lot of talented fighters that never reached their potential.

1. Mike Weaver
2. Tim Witherspoon
3. Jon Tate
4. James Smith - The Bonecrusher
5. Michael Dokes
6. Greg Page
7. Tony Tucker
8. Pinklon Thomas
9. Tony Tubbs
10. Bruce Seldon.

This question/answer verifies this statement. Iron Mike was overrated. He fed on quite a few of these heavies on this list.

Smitty ~

You have a pretty good list of early 80's Heavyweights. Here's my top 10.

1) Witherspoon

2) Weaver

3) Tate

4) Dokes

5) Smith

6) Page

7) Tubbs

8) Tucker

9) Thomas

10) Seldon

I have Weaver before Tate because of the outcome of their fight. He was losing the fight all the way around, but the outcome, one of the greatest come from behind knockouts ever.

Thanks for the question Brother.

1. Tucker
2. Tate
3. Seldon
4. Thomas
5. Page
6. Witherspoon
7. Dokes
8. Tubbs
9. Smith
10. Weaver

Smitty I arrived at this list using a formula of hardest to KO, winning percentage, and KO power. Tucker was the hardest of these guys to knockout, Weaver by far the easiest.
