i love them. i was always brought up with them as my mum used to breed them. i got one from a rescue centre 4 years ago and i had to put it asleep last year. we took her to the vet because she needed to be shaved as she was in a sorry state. the rescue didn't know how old she was but the vet said she was 16 human t=years so she had a lovely 4 years with us she was 20 when we had to put her asleep she was going blind and started to mess any were as she didn't know where she was. i loved her.

Well---I thought mine were the most lovely of all! But I might be a tad prejudice.
Take the cat to the vet and have it strip-clipped (shaved)
I know I sound like a broken record on the subject...but it is the best thing I do for me and my cats.
No more matted fur, no hair on the furniture, no hairballs for the poor cat!
I have it done 3-4 times a year.
Glad you love your cat!
Good for you for adopting from the rescue center.
You cat will be forever grateful!

I love Maine Coons best I have to admit... but they also have the lovely long hair, it's gorgeous.
You've got to get those mats taken care of right away. It can cause the cat a lot of pain and give it skin conditions. I wouldn't try this myself because if you start going at it in this condition, the cat will instantly develop a hatred for you. I'd take it to a professional cat groomer (ask a vet for a reference) who is used to handling such problems. It will probably have to be at least partially shaved which will make the poor thing ugly for a couple of months. But the new hair will grow in lovely and you can groom it from then on perfectly.

My 5month old kitten is half Persian half Tabby
so she's got all the fluffy hair from the persian breed and the cute face of tabby cats.
she's the most gorgeous cat i have ever seen and everyone thats seen her agrees!
she was given to me as a present for my birthday

yes I agree, we have one who has a personality unlike any other cat I have ever seen. Lovely animal, but their are a lot of problems with the long hair... I don't know if I'd get another one.

ALL cats are lovable, even the big ones like tigers, although some are not approachable! Comparisons are odious.

They look too artificial to me-I prefer short haired cats.
I'm sure they make great pets,it's just my personal preference.

they are lovely, but need to be groomed so their fur doesn't mat. I'm partial to Norwegian forest cats, though.
