If it is only when you run, it may be asthma, or it could just be a cramp, pinched rib. If it does not go away when you put your arm (on the side that it hurts) above you head and strech, or you notice that you are wheezing you really should go see the dr.

Well you say its not your heart, well how do you know this for sure, have you seen a doctor to have this checked out? If you haven't I recommend you see him as soon as possible. The first I think would be something to do with your heart or maybe your lungs. Also how in shape are you, do you run steady and this just start coming on, are you a smoker, these are all things you have to look at.
But when it comes to chest pain it is not something to play around with get into your doctor or the hospital emerge right now, Sorry to say but this type of a question is something that you should be asking a doctor, this is not really the place. Please go see your doctor right away so they can run the test and make sure your not having heart problems for sure, this is nothing to play around with.

It's always good to be checked out by a doctor. But I had the same thing when I ran. And had the stitches in the sides, all out of breath. You just need to keep training, in that case. Don't start off too fast. Do wind sprints, and build yourself up slowly. Talk to a coach...especially a track coach.

It won't continue after you have spent enough time training correctly.

How long have you been running? It could just be the body needing some oxygen...that will improve. monitor it for a week or so and if it does not improve, see a doctor. Are there any related symptoms? Get it checked just to be sure.

It's probably your lungs. If so, it'll go away as you increase your fitness.
