The basis to claim one is faith backed up by words in a book.

The basis for the other is evidence. Observation of the many societies in which each sets up a God which is like something they have seen or known and which is bigger and stronger than themselves and usually can give or withhold gifts.

The Polynesian "cargo cult" is an example of the way a supernatural religion is born and grows. Its origin can be clearly traced to World War 2. Google it and see.

God created a man in His image. That means that we know right from wrong.

The eternal God of Heaven created man in his own image. Since then men have created "gods" in their own image or in the image of other created things.

Romans 1:19 For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. 20 For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.

21 For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened.

22 Claiming to be wise, they became fools, 23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and reptiles. 24 Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves, 25 because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen.

God created Man in his own image. Try reading the first couple of chapters in Genesis.

I don't know but I read "God created man in his own image" in the bible...and also read " God bless man by creating him in the best image" in the Quran...so I think in most religions we are told that God created man in his own image...Then we go back and draw pictures of him to make him look like us as we were told we are created looking like him...

The Judeo-Christian concept of the one true God is completely unlike the image of man.

God is believed to be:
+ Everlasting and unconditional love
+ Merciful and just
+ Holy
+ All powerful (almighty or omnipotent)
+ All knowing (omniscient)
+ Everywhere (omnipresent)
+ Without beginning or end
+ Neither male nor female

This is obviously not the image of man.

Therefore the only other option in your question is that man is made in the image of God.

Our basis for these beliefs is not a book but actual revelations from God about Himself (or Herself).

With love in Christ.

Man created God in his image. Take the Bible for just one example. Why would an omnipotent and omniscient God have such human pyschopathic failings as murderous rage fueled by jealousy?

Since I am not a Christian, I am not bind to that argument.

High level gods are in the form of light, pure energies. When they create human, they made us in the most useful forms among other creatures. Then they interact with people by our form. Further, to ease the mind format of those mortals that raise to heaven, the gods also interact with them in human forms.

Simple enough?

If God did not exist, man would feel the need to create him. If God existed and man didn't, God would feel the need to create him. Man needs a "quick-fix" answer to all the questions he cannot answer for himself. Clearly, based on the dogma of most...I stress MOST...religions, God needs to be worshiped on a regular basis. When you get the difinitive answer to this question be sure to return from the dead and tell us the answer.

Don't get confuse.

"So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them."

Man was made last of all the creatures.
