I have always caught every virus going, but have had one for over 2 months now. It comes and goes, sometimes relating to how tired or stressed I am, giving mild to moderate flu symptoms. I eat wisely, get plenty of rest and am taking all supplements I have been advised might help, including a comprehensive vitamin and mineral product, extra vitamin C and echinacea. The only other thing I can think of doing is consult a homoeopath. Can anyone offer any advice please?

I'm sorry, but "Dr Frank the GP" is completely wrong in saying that vitamins don't have an effect. Recent and corobarated studies have shown that an intake of vitamin D at 200-300% of the Recommended daily allowance reduces infections. Lack of vitamin D is one of the main reasons you get more colds in the winter - we get vit D from the sun.

Also vit A, C and E are all required in higher amounts during an infection as they are used by the immune system.

To be honest, there is little you can do. Try the zinc thing, but you said you are taking minerals. Tyr taking a few days off and doing nothing.

Sorry there is no evidence at all that extra vitamins are better than just the normal amounts. Controlled studies on echinacea showed that the treated group got slightly more colds which lasted slightly longer than the placebo group, so it is demonstrably useless!

Worth getting a blood work up from your GP including a blood count and film and immunoglobulin levels. What often happens is patients get a virus, it lowers the immune system, making you more likely to get virus number 2 and so on. There is in fact little you can do to change this. If you expect to get any benefit from homeopathy other than a psychological one you will be disappointed.
