the 3000 miles change is a used to be and some companies still recommend it but the manufacturer has said that their vehicle is OK to 5000, I have a indicator in my last 5 or 6 vehicles that test the oil and tell me wen to change and that isn't at 3000 miles either. How ever I am of the old school and think like many that 3000 is a good time to change oil. Remember this is your vehicle and how it lasts is how well you take care of it. If you feel better with the 3000 miles change then if the 5000 works better for you then change it, I wouldn't stretch much beyond that

The 3000 mile oil changes is a tradition that will be hard to break. If you look closely at the vehicle's book, most no longer say 3000 due to the fact that modern oil's capacities are more durable. I think some toyotas recommend every 7500.
Good Luck!!

You can change every 7500 miles without a problem. Consumer Reports actually did a test on taxis and found that oil changed at 7500 interval was just as effective as 3000.
Oil companies and oil change chains (Jiffy Lube) are the ones who want 3000 because they make more money that way.

People that make money from oil changes (oil change places, service departments of dealerships, oil companies, etc.) want you to change your oil every 3000 miles. They make more money that way.
The car manufacturers don't make any money on oil changes, but they want their cars to last a long time, so they tell you when the vehicle actually needs things done.
Always go by the service/maintenance schedule in your owners manual.

I work in service at a car dealership. I hear this question alot. The manufactuerers are saying 5,000 miles in your ownsers manual. Why I do not know. Most dealerships are still saying 3,000 miles. It helps to keep your warranty and your new car running great!
