It depends on who you are inviting and if the person you are inviting to the wedding is someone you "have" to invite or if you really want them to come and how far away they live, etc. This rule applies to all guests and is not technically etiquettely correct;however, the technically correct answer is you should send out invitations aproximately 3-4 months before the wedding, although I know some say 6 months, so that people who have to schedule vacation time can do so reasonably, and make travel arrangements that are not last minute.

It depends on how far away they are from your wedding location. People need to time to take off from work. So, 2 months is good. More if people are traveling from a long distance.

4-6 weeks but mail earlier to those coming from overseas or those you know to be heavily committed either socially or on the work front.

If its a big wedding its six months advance, to allow rsvp, and to be able to order menus and such, less formal, anywhere from one to three months.
