Hmm. Well, you see there could be no egg without a chicken, but there also can't be a chicken without an egg. The egg hatches and there is a chicken. Yet the egg wouldn't be there to hatch if another chicken hadn't layed it. This question is kinda like asking what came first when nobody really knows how everything got here. lol

A scientific answer, as birds came after reptiles and fish, the egg most certainly came first as most things previous to chickens also layed eggs. Also worth noting that chickens were not even one of the first birds.

For a religious answer, the chicken would have probably come first as most religions preach that their gods placed the animals on the land and not eggs.

the egg. it was a genetic anomaly from a chicken like creature. the egg was laid but there was a genetic defect in the egg which caused the chicken to evolve from what it was before.

if you think about it, everything has to be born. if you say the chicken came first, then it would have had to appear from nowhere fully formed. this isn't possible. so by default the egg had to come first from a chicken like creature

Effectively it was the egg - whilst it was in the womb - that was then fertilised and produced a chicken who laid an egg, but then again where did the chicken come from - that should be the real question???

the chicken was first, purely because of the way the shop is laid out - chickens, lamb, pork, beef mince, eggs, all in a row along the rear wall.
