I don't know the exact number, but consider that an average of 175,000 are there from month to month. If you multiply that number by four, you get how many have actually been there. So probably about 700,000 or so. It could be as many as a million to a million and a half, but that would be roughly half the military, and I don't buy into that number. I think maybe 2 out of 5 soldiers have actually pulled a tour in Iraq. Perhaps three.

That would be a question for the Pentagon However you must also include those people that go there that are not actual military.
The better question would be how many were processed for transport to Iraq by the military broken down into military and civilian. This number would be a more realistic picture of the effort and funds expended on this endeavor..
This number would include the Department of Army Civilians, Department of Justices, etc. Interpreters etc. Procurement Officers, Advisors Contractors.

A couple months ago the Army Times had a big article saying there were 2 million deployments so far. Not to say that 2 million different people have deployed though - a lot of people are on their 2nd and 3rd tours at this point.

If you take a figure like lets say 200,000 soldier are here a year or close to it and multiply it by 5 yrs you get 1,000,000. that is a close estimate. This would be correct if it was new people going every year that had never been there. Now if you take in the fact that at least half of the military has been here 2,3,or even 4 tours now you get a new number because that soldier, sailor, marine,or airman has been here already and now you are counting them over again. I am one of those that has been here twice and am now serving my third time. Sorry to mess up the math, thank the boss for that one.
