Its a mental health issue. Alot of people who cut do do it as a release of emotional pain. A lot of times it comes from being mentally, emotionally or sexually abused. The best thing to do to help them is tell their parents, or tell your school counselor, and ask to remain anonymous. This is serious and those kids are hurting themselves and can or may end up killing themselves. Please please please tell someone hun. They are crying out for help....

i personally dissisociate from my self when im emotionally a wreck - cutting actually helps me "feel the pain" and snap back to reality - on other hand my best friend heard voices and stuff when she was really bad - and they told her to do it - she did it so the voices would shut up.
i dunno - something about the blood dripping seems very relaxing - i mean u control something when you cut - you can cut deep and bleed out - or u can control yourself and cut only deep enuff to feel the pain... unfortunetly this tends to get you hospitalised fast and leaves deep scars, and doesnt solf the issues - i hated the scars - so mostly i just steal needles from the drs office and "draw" my own blood i still feel the pain and if i hit a good vein i can control how much of my "life" seeps thru my fingers.... ok ok yeah u probably are more confused than before - i hope i helped u understand it better though...
help your friends get them help - they will have to live with the scars all their lives.

Well, it depends. Some people cut to get rid of emotional pain...or problems they may have had. They think the pain will fix everything. But, it really doesn't...You just think it does...And then, you have the people that do it for attention...I'm not going to speak for your friends...or the other 5 people...But...i've had several friends who cut themselves...i know it was for attention, because they showed no signs of depression or being sad at all...But, this doesn't work for everyone...It's just usually...you would see some signs...But, don't automatically think it's for attention...if it's really bothering you...ask your friends why they do it...or talk to 'em...maybe you could get them to stop...

I think people hurt themselves for different reasons. For me it was more about internalising my anger, punishment and strange as it sounds - a safety thing (if this is what I do to myself, then no one can hurt me as bad kinda thing).
I wouldn't tell anyone without your friends permission about what they're doing. From experience, if you're not ready to sort things out, then you're going to find it incredibly hard to get better. Try and persuade them to initiate some form of treatment - guaranteed to be more of a success than if they are forced to talk.
Physically, when you cut/hurt yourself, endorphins are released which can create a big high or rush (like some exercises). It is this that took my mind of the emotional turmoil.

There are multiple reasons why people self-mutilate and each case needs to be explored individually. The most common reason is that it occurs during a dissociative state and assists people who have been traumatized with achieving a state of emotional numbness and you hear it described as soothing for them. The physiological basis for it stems from the release of endorphins-the brain's natural painkillers-which function much like opiates and dull the experience of emotional pain. Other reasons include the opposite rationale-people who feel numb emotionally and who have shut down will self-mutilate in order to feel something and remember they are alive. Others do it for self-punishment and feel relief from guilt or shame and see the letting of blood as a way to purge themselves of guilt. It may be a way of re-enacting and attempting to master early traumatic experiences. In more rare instances it can be a response to psychotic states where folks are responding to command hallucinations or believe they are purging themselves from some evil inside them. There are other less common reasons, depending on the form of self-mutilation (eye enucleation, castration, etc.) that tend to be symbolic in nature. But most commonly it is done in response to increased feelings of tension with which the individual cannot cope and it becomes a way for them dissociate their emotional pain and achieve an emotional numbing. The goal of treatment is to fully understand the reasons that sustain the behavior and in the latter case (the most common) to help people develop affect tolerance and the ability to cope with and soothe their emotional pain in healthier ways.

"emo" human beings do not decrease themselves. Emo is basically a style and a track type. that's not something. I certainly have many emo pals and that they don't decrease themselves and that i used to be emo. Now, once you're questioning approximately people who extremely decrease themselves, there are a number of clarification why they're slicing themselves. Rape, abuse, bullied, stress, etc. human beings decrease themselves experience depressed and positioned down on. they don't experience like they should stay and to have a crap existence so as that they decrease themselves hoping they could die.
