My hens like mashed potato and cabbage (cooked) You should also give them layers pellets and make sure they have plenty of water. If you can let them free range they will be much happier but look out for foxes !

I am the head poultryman ath a lare poultryfarm, and I am pretty sure i can answer this basic question. Chickens will eat corn, best for fattening, grass seed, our free range flock dosent let us grow grass. Egg pellets, full of protine to help in egg production, any scratch, potato peelings, and any other sort of vegtible pealing, NO cellarie the strings choke them, or artichoke it chokes them too. do not feed them egg shels contrary to the old wives tale, it dosent help egg production, it only makes them like to eat their eggs, and you will get none. They will also eat bread. over all this, chickens love the kill, hey are slightly carniverous, i have sen them kill mice and eat them, they also like to eat grubs, and any other bug they see. they have completely wiped out the tick population on the farm. i hope this helped,

I would say my chickens love to eat anything. Items high in protein such as frogs and worms are very high on the list of desireables.
