I don't understand why it is beginning 3 weeks earlier this year. What is the purpose behind it? Can someone please enlighten me? Thanks!

it's all about saving energy... in the evening you have more daylight, thus use your household lights less before you go to bed

It is an experiment to see if energy will be conserved because people will have more daylight in evening. My thought is more people getting up in the morning will have less daylight then and will use extra energy the. The saving will be minimal. There are better ways to conserve, and to conserve more. Unfortunately the better ways affect profits of big business.
Anyway, after the failure we will be back to normal.
But government will point to the experiment to show they are striving to conserve. ;)

Congress' brilliant idea that if it stays lighter later at night, you will use less electicity. Since you won't have to turn your lights on until 8 pm instead of 7 pm.

Was an ill-thought-out plan considering the ramifications in the computer age. Bad idea.
