I love them! Daphne DuMaurier is my favorite -- the original gothic fiction writer. I like Rebecca best, but The House on the Strand is good. So is Jamaica Inn.

I am interested to hear other people's book recommendations, so I can add them to my list!

I love to read the "original" Gothic novels from the eighteenth century... If you haven't tried them, please do, they will scare you!

The best ones are:

The Monk by Matthew Lewis
The Italian by Anne Radcliffe

others are: The Castle of Otranto, and even things like Frankenstein and Dracula. Interestingly, Jane Austen's "Northanger Abbey" was written as a bit of a mickey-take off all the gothic novels that were popular at the time, so that's worth a read too.

Indeed, I recently read Lord of the Dead. It was all right, it's a few years old. I also read Forever Will You Suffer which had some excellent imagery but, frankly read like it was written by a lovesick teenager.

Anne Rice, of course, a goddess among us. They classify her as horror but I think that's just to get her more mainstream.

I write goth-horror poetry as well (in fact I just put one up on my 360 page last night) and novels. Someday maybe you'll be asking if anyone else likes to read Raven of the Wood novels. Sigh...
