My friend named Brett and I chat regularly online and over the years we've become pretty good friends. So there came a time when I noticed he hadn't been online for about a week, and usually he tells me if he is going to be gone for awhile so I was a little worried. A few days after that, one of Brett's friends signed on and told me that Brett won't be available for awhile and Brett asked this friend of his to let everyone know that he will be in touch as soon as possible. I asked if he was okay and his friend said yes. His friend said Brett was at a place where he can't talk on the phone or use the internet but he's fine. He said he couldn't give out any information about himself or Brett and that I can't contact Brett until I hear from him. It's been at least three weeks since I've talked to him. I'm really confused and worried, what do you think could've happened?

I don't think he went to rehab, I mean I know he's not a drug user or alcoholic or anything.
He's a good guy, I know that he does get into fights sometimes but only to defend an innocent person or something with a good reason behind it.

My guess would be prison or rehab, but I think rehab is a more likely answer.
Prisoners generally have at least some access to the internet, but people in rehab are usually cut off so they can take a break from talking to their friends who use.
Since he said he's fine, I wouldn't worry too much about it. I am sure he will come back, and if he can tell you where he's been, he will.

call the city and county jails and ask if he is an inmate.if that isn't his temporary home call the hospitals and other institutions.good luck.
