Easily French with Spanish coming in second. French would dominate in the north and Spanish in the south. French would probably outnumber Spanish in the end though
English is the 2nd largest language in the world; with native speakers and secondary it has almost 1 billion speakers. Spanish does not even come close to this.
**A common misconception was that America voted on English or German as an official language. This never occurred.**

Russia once owned most of the west side (of the USA) so possibly Russian.
Then again the Spanish had a good look in and so did the French.
I think the Vikings arrived first so Norwegian was a possibility.
However if nobody had colonised the country then whatever the native American Indians speak would be a fair bet.

We'd probably speak several different tongues, and still be several different colonies rather than one country. Each colony would speak the language of the mother country - Dutch, Spanish, French, Portuguese, German, Gaelic - and of course, English. On the Left Coast, a lot of folks would be speaking Chinese. Lastly, there'd be a number of nations in "the heartland" speaking native tongues like Arapaho, Wichita, Sioux, Mandan...

I would have to go with American English still. We have always used a mish mosh of language anyway. Especially since America was founded with more than just one language.

I would have thought the official language would be German, however there would still be a significant proportion of Spanish speakers as there is today. I imagine the proportion of Spanish speakers has increased due to migration after the independance of the USA.

If it wasn't for the Europeans then people in your neck of the woods would be speaking Native American languages. The land belongs to them, not some white mongrel inbreeds!

Probably a mixture of Dutch, Spanish, French and possibly Portugese.
Without the British presence the dynamics of colonialism would have been dramatically different and it is doubtful the lines we see on our maps today would look the same.

if the English decided against colonizing America we would all be most likely speaking french unless you are in the southern states in which you would probably be speaking Spanish because that is where Spain settled in North America.
