Im trying to open an ebay store and I dont want it looking like everyone elses. A few people on there have got some really cool designs which they have done themselves... possibly through html, which I know LITTLE about! (not nothing but little)

They have their own backgrounds and pictures and writing styles, colours etc.. and this is their default, so everytime they make a listing it goes into their store with the cool design.

HOW in the world do I accomplsh this... Im a fast learner, one person told me it was too hard... but I know I can do it I just need to know where to go! I know if I had a html page where i entered raw html text I would figure it out no worries but I cant even find that page!

HOW DOES EBAY DO THIS?

Any info would help..thanks

Peace x x x

It's fairly easy to use a webpage builder....either dreamweaver or frontpage is pretty popular. I wouldn't go spending the money of the office suite if you don't have frontpage...either download it or borrow a disc from a friend to copy

In any case, those programs will let you setup the design quite easily....no programming needed. You just do the layout to your liking and the html is written for you in the background. Any images for items your selling as well as background or style images can be hosted online by free sites. http://www.imagecave.com is the one I use....they don't hit you with any spam and it's pretty hassle free.

I usually set the page just how I like it. Then upload the pics to imagecave to host. Then I reference the URL of each pic hosted on the server in the page I'm building.

Once it's all done, you click the tab in fronpage to view the source code. Select all....and copy/paste the html right into ebay. You can include as many pics as you like in your auction and since they're hosted by a remote server you won't incur any additional fees.

PS. If you see someone else's layout that really grabs your eye...it's not impossible to steal it. When I first started I saw a couple people paying for layouts from andele....in internet explorer you just select "view / source" then you can copy the entire source code. If you paste it into frontpage you can then easily find the image hosting sites that are used for any border or style images....go to those sites directly to download the images and then host them yourself.....then just update the reference for the hosting server.

I don't recommend ripping off everyone else's design except that it really helped me when I first got going....had trouble getting the tables and layouts just right....not to mention my grasp of color concept left plenty to be desired. It was an easy way to get going. Eventually the learning curve kicked in and I got better at designing my own setup.

In ebay...you're given the option to use regular input or html when you're setting up an auction (there's a tab for basic or html) ....I never ordered up an actual ebay store but I'd imagine there's similar input method.

When you are creating the page for you eBay item, there is an opportunity to add/paste your own HTML/Java Script code into the page. I have done it before. But you want to change the default background. The backgroud image is an attribute in the tag of HTML, so you probably can't change the background of the entire page, only a table, or table cell. When you are adding your item you come to a page that you can put an item description in. There is two tabs... Standard and HTML. Click the HTML tab. Create a table:

This will give the table the BG image, not the whole page.

When you list your item you get the option of picking a design there are many to chose from.
