It depends. Sometimes, they're considered on probation if they're new so they haven't finished the accreditationi process. Sometimes, it's cuz the accreditation org is thinking about yanking their accreditation.

I really just know pharmacy and law schools.

In pharmacy, there are tons of them starting up. If it's on probation, it's prolly ok.

In law, there are too many schools. If it's on probation, don't go there. The accreditation is likely going to be yanked one of these days.

No, it means they're close to being not accredited.
