Good grief, this sounds like an essay question. Modern life is better because of communication and information. Past life was better because of simplicity. Of course there are about a million other things both pro and con for all eras.

So far with very few exception and alwayss on a global scale; Life in the present is alway better than Life in the past. on every imaginable aspect. To go to extremes to make a point. Life in the stone age from our point of view would be More like Russian roulette. I would not survive more than a few weeks if I'm lucky. No medicine no security no nothing a fire and a cave. Given a choice between Neolithic and iron age I would go for the iron age. Farming small villages big cities rudiment of sanitation. Travel. Writing. Cultures and societies evolve almost like an organism. We would find even something as recent as the 19th century unbearable. Any notion of the past being better is at best a romantic one. You would totally freak out in imperial Rome. Think of something that did not exist 30 years ago and you have your answer. The only better life (so far that's the way the evidence points to) is in the future

It depends what you mean by better .
Today we have TV ...the Internet .......mobile phones and you can chat with a person on the other side of the world .
But is that better ???
When I was Young 1935 ??? we listened to the radio , we played in the street ( not so many cars ) .
All my friends lived within shouting distance , I knew their brothers and their mothers .
We had all sorts of street games and we could play without fear of danger .
My mother was at home if I ever needed her and all my meals were home cooked .
(( that's not saying it was better for my mum tho ))
With my best friend with a broomstick and a sack each and a few sandwiches and a fizzy drink we could just walk away for a couple of days and camp where ever we stopped . (( the stick and sack were an instant tent .))
Aint nostalgia wonderful
I live in the UK of course , nobody is going to shoot me

modern life was better than the past because we have developed greatly, and became more aware of stuff. knowlegde has grown and people are more diverse.
for example: in the past people didnt know about bacteria and germs which caused a lot of deaths. they didnt know about basic science. there was seprations. among race and genders.

life better in the past? im not really sure thats a thinker ha

Indoor plumbing that is the best thing ever. I hate going out to the out house. (My b/f still has one, and I don't visit him in winter as when i lived with him one night I slipped on ice coming out of it and laid there for over 30 min.)
Medicine is much better I know because if I lived just 100yrs ago I wouldn't be alive. I had to have my thyroid burned out.
My best one is people(not all) bath more today than even just 50yrs ago. Of course that is in the U.S. not France(there they just put on more perfume)

Today is good for procrastinators with faxes and emails and cellphones. Today is better than the old days because you dont' have to lose touch with friends. Yesterday was better because everyone was white.
