The 'Space: ABove and Beyond' was a sci-fi tv series which only lasted a season. Despite being very popular with many viewers and having a solid cult/kult following, it was taken off our screens and never heard of again.

Like most Sci-Fi on network TV, it failed due to lousy ratings. A cult following does not translate into a successful series, otherwise we'd still be watching "Firefly".

There have been very few SF shows that lasted more than a few seasons on regular TV; even the original Star Trek was a failure the first time out on NBC, barely limping into its 3rd season.

Cable & syndication have been where SF has been successful, but it seems everytime the networks try it, they screw it up. Offhand, I'd have to say that Quantum Leap may be one of the few shows with an SF element to last, probably because it had a contemporary setting. I'm sure there have been others, but I can't think of them offhand.
