I was born in Dublin but love Cork, particularly west Cork. It is largely unspoilt and there are lovely towns and villages to visit. The people are very friendly and always have lots of time for you, particularly the older generation. The only thing you can't guarantee is the weather but all the other points listed above are ample compensation.

You're most welcome to see my web blog below (with pictures) of a five-day self-driving tour of Cork and Kerry. Remember to allow plenty of time since it does take a lot of time to travel, due to the relatively empty and winding roads!

Cork is LOVELY!

Even the city is nice. And it is not "Cork County" but " the county of Cork".

The South coast around Skibbereen is gorgeous, so are Garnish Island and Fota Island. I fully understand that your Mother superior would be homesick.

If you want to talk to the natives you mostly need an interpreter, their brand of English is very hard to understand for outsiders.

Cork is a very nice place to visit. Nice fields (if you can find them amidst the construction), green grass, and quaint little farms set here and there among the cities!
