It's a strange foible - the English despise everyone, even other English. They even write songs about it. I think it's the weather. They write songs about that, too.

I've never met a single English person who hates the Welsh, nor even heard a single derogatory comment about Welsh people in my life.
To be honest, I think a lot of the English are oblivious to Wales - which may be offensive in itself. Wales and the Welsh have very little impact on the lives of the English - unlike the reverse where laws made by Englishmen are constantly enacted upon the Welsh.
I wonder where you got the impression from? I'm quite curious.

I am an Englishmen living in Wales, I am also married to a Welsh girl and I have 4 daughters. I find that my wife and children dislike the Welsh race because the Welsh are always harping on about how proud they are and what a beautiful country they have. The ones that do this have very rarely left their beloved Wales and therefore do not have an expanse of knowledge about other countries. If I had a pound for every time I had heard "we have all this countryside and hills, what have the English got?" Have these people ever left Wales and had a good look around, I think not.

Hi.
Just to answer your question...
I don't think any of the english hate the welsh if anything I thought it was the other way around, I love going to wales on holiday, Im always nice to the welsh people and love the accent, but my feelings aren't reciproccated (<
For example one time I went to a welsh touristy town, i went into a shop to buy a souvenir pen, the lady at the till charged me 2 pounds for it, when i questioned her she said, 'my mistake' and then charged me one pound for the pen, it was clearly labelled 90 pence, she was very short tempered with me, so anyway, not wanting to cause more controversy i decided to just leave the shop with my souvenir pen.
Also, I always feel reluctant to speak outloud when im in wales because I dont want the welsh people to hear me in fear of being judged just because of being english.
Im really glad you've put this question up because as you can see from all the comments, the english dont hate the welsh atall!! :) but also as proof of this you could see how popular welsh boy glynn was on big brother last year.
I <3 wales!!

I'm English and I don't hate the Welsh, but I can answer why you think the Welsh are hated by the English, because they always seem to say that "I am Welsh", "I am proud to be Welsh" in every sentence.

Well I've seen a few similar questions, like why do the English hate the Welsh, Irish, Scots etc, but as far as I'm aware (I'm English), it just seems to be that the Irish, Scots and Welsh just think we hate them for no reason), we do however not like proper foreigners very much unless they work and pay taxes and stuff.

I love the Welsh (not Miss Church). Lovely hills and rains a lot. Not sure I like paying to get into Wales tho and I am not going the long way round.

I thought the English liked the Welsh but make jokes about them. Sort of like those in the US like Canada but make fun of them and vice versa.

As a Welsh person, happily living in England for many years, I give you the following scenario, with no further comment from me!
Friend, introducing me to her 'new man'
"This is Sandy, she's Welsh"
New man, to me,
"I don't like the Welsh"
Me, to new man
"That's ok, I don't like the English".
