Americans have learned, over time, that the justifications for entering Iraq were not valid; Saddam Hussein had no weapons of mass destruction, and, no ties to Al Queda. America entering Iraq was a tremendous mistake, strategically.
Now here we are. Some in the USA wish the troops to be withdrawn regardless of what the outcome might be for Iraq. Some wish for the troops to stay until stability can be assured for the Iraqi people. Bush, and his generals, feel this can be done with 125,000 to 150,000 troops, and, a timetable perhaps a year or two, though, Bush is reluctant to set a timetable on this matter.
McCain believes far more troops require being sent. Many democrats wish to see troops removed as quickly as possible.
Colin Powell in 2002 told Bush that if we invaded Iraq, we would "own it", for 30 years.
Only time will tell what will happen in Iraq.

The Democratic Party today is not the one of John Kennedy. It is now the party of far left wing extremist that think the Government should be involved in every aspect of our lives. The do not believe in accountability for ones self. They believe in high taxes and that the wealth of those that worked hard to achieve it should be distributed to those that don't have it . It's Communism I know. I served two terms in Viet Nam. We did not lose one battle there. It was lost by the far left wing Democrats and Communist sympathizers in our Congress. North Viet Nam was about to be defeated and these Democrats cut off funding to our troops. That resulted in the murder of millions in Cambodia and Viet Nam. They are about to do it again just for political expediency. They and the blame America first and haters of America crowd hate Bush so much that they will say and do anything they can to damage him politically including withdrawal of the funding of the troops and allowing Iraq to become the killing fields of the Middle East. If we do abandon Iraq and we know that the terrorist States such as Iran will destabilize the region, then the far left wing will say it was all Bush's doing. That we never should have taken Saddam out. They even blame Bush for 9-11 ignoring the evidence of Al-Queda responsibility . The families of our men that gave their lives there know that their sacrifice will not have been in vain. There are just a fraction of our population that will always be against anything our country does. The Democrats have no plan for victory all they have is a plan for defeat and will call it a victory because they will have damaged the President. You may read those above and understand what I am saying. John Kerry lied before Congress in 1971 and when made to prove his statements he admitted he lied. The Iraqis own documents proved that Al-Quada had contact with Saddam. These are the ones that would rather believe a lie than the truth. They hate the President that much. When we came home from Viet Nam we could not wear our unifroms in public because this same group think type of people as above claimed to support us but we were attacked physically and spat upon and called us baby killers. If you want to see the furture look to history. The immediate evidence will be that those that answer with a pro- American answer will be given a bad rating.

Your question is valid, however misguided. The war was fought on bad intelligence, and our government should have used restraint before going full-fledged into war. Ironically, Iraq and Sadaam (although a not very nice guy), was a stabilizing factor in the middle east. Before you freak out, listen. Sadaam ran a more secular form of government (did not tolerated Sharia law), and our war is really against religious extremists...in the new vacuum of power, these religious extremists our gaining quite the foothold in the way things are being run there. We have created the "safe haven for terrorists" that we were supposedly fighting. We should have stayed in Afghanistan, period.
The policy of no longer sacrificing American lives for a fruitless war does not damage the valor of these citizens, and as a fiancee of a veteran and a friend to some who have died there, I do not feel that it takes away from the honor and sacrifice of these people. The blame should fall squarely on the administration who put them there, before weighing all the consequences and scenarios. Bush was warned that he would need a lot more forces than we had to win the war, yet he didn't listen.
My question for you is why continue to sacrifice more lives to this cause which has only damaged the United States and their allies?

It isn't a matter of who will explain what. It is a matter of who will blame anyone but themselves the loudest.
Nothing that we are witnessing now has anything to do with what is in the best inerest of any country anywhere. It is all about who can point the finger at the other person/political party/country and make the accusation stick.

Its just MORE liberal propaganda! They are in belief that since they won back the house and senate, they did so because america wants out of the war. Thats a PARTIAL truth! WE ALL want out of the war. But not too LOSE! These same F*cking liberal whinners think losing vietnam was good for us! In fact Jimmy Carter proved why it wasn't. 1979 stone age Iran took 52 hostages for 444 days and the LIBERAL WAY of negotiations DIDN'T FREE them! These are the same liberal pieces of crap that spat on soldiers coming home during and after the vietnam war, and have no respect for human beings elsewhere in the world. Timelines are nothing more than retreat! I am hoping America GETS HIT AGAIN! and AGAIN and AGAIN! That is what its going to take for this country of cowards to realize JHAD is here for the long run!

im wondering how many more times i have to answer the same questiioin. insurgents and agitators are recruited, trained and funded by al qaeda, the war that they are waging is called jihad. its real, deadly, and contrary to what the pelosi...ites think will follow us home if we enact cut and run. its real simple, we fight them there or here and they could really care less where. they want us all dead in the west regardless. if you google jihad you or anyone else can get all the information you need for a proper explanatoin about why soldiers are dying. the point here is that the pelosites care nothing about this situation save advancing a political agenda and cut and run makes that vivdly clear.

Bush & the cronies in power just now should be held to account for the deaths of the 2000+ soldiers killed in Iraq etc. It was their insistence on starting this phoney war that led to such a huge loss of innocent life.
Will they be convicted?
Nah, who will convict them?
