To protect the business use of the phrase-name you need a trademark. However, it is not easy getting a trademark for a name made up of ordinary words, for it is not unique enough to prevent someone else using the phrase "see a resume doctor" for instance. Corporation names usually have to be unique, so try and incorporate with that name and you will get some protection. There can be only one "ResumeDoctor, LTD" or "ResumeDoctor Inc." Not as sexy as TM but simple and inexpensive.

You can't copyright individual words - the work must be "an original work of authorship", and short phrases and words do not qualify. You may be able to trademark the word for use in business; however, note that trademarks are rarely universal and must actually be used in commerce. If you're looking to start ResumeDoctor Consulting Services, you'd have some protection; if you're looking to collect royalties every time someone uses the word "ResumeDoctor", then you're SOL.

Go to the same place that you go to get licenses and permits. (not drivers licence) I mean the place that does liquor licensing, building permits, prostitution licensing, etc.
Not knowing where you are, i'd say this is a pretty good place to start
