The equation is : x^2 + 3x - 4 = 0

I'm being asked to solve this using the method of graphing. I can solve it using a quadratic formula, but I don' have a clue how to solve it using graphing. Can anyone help?

Draw the graph of x^2 + 3x -4
Find where the line crosses the x axis
These points are the values of x that can be obtained by using the formula
ie x = 1, -4

This method is useful when a formula cannot be used
eg x^5 - 4x^3 +3x^2 - 1 = 0

Solving the equation means finding its roots (also called zeros). These are the values which make y = x^2 + 3x -4 = 0 ie the points where the graph crosses the OX axis.

hie... to solve this graphically... put x^2= y..., then the eqn reduces to y+3x-4=0...., as x^2=y is a parabola.. sketch the graph taking different values of x and ploting them against the values of y.... do same for y+3x-4=0..., which is a straight line.. now the answer is the points of intersection of these 2 curves... read this carefully and solve it...bye...!!![:)]
