Seeing how ABC news was able to ship a container full of radioactive material from Turkey to downtown New York and another one from Indonesia to LAX without either one being stopped or detected, I'd say someone is asleep on the job

Well, seeing as our border's are still wide open and porous, which makes absolutely no sense to me...I really don't know. I honestly do feel that 9/11 stinks of an inside job, based on many factors including the way the towers fell, the falling of WTC 7, the constant blocking of investigations into 9/11, the president's rhetoric, etc. My question if who is protecting us from our government?
Check out www.st911.org it is a site run by the families of the victims of 9/11, their voices deserved to be heard, and the site will blow your mind.

Many government agencies, homeland security included, are only in the media when they screw up. Thousands of patriots defend the US every day, and no one even knows about it. There is one simple fact that answers this question completely: There have been ZERO attacks on US soil since 9/11.
As a law enforcement officer myself, I know how thankless the job can be. We toil in the trenches every day to protect people that do not appreciate what we do. The VAST majority of Americans have no idea what we do unless something goes wrong.
Countless terror attacks have been thwarted over the past 6 years, all thanks to people who work because we love our country and not to be in the media and/or be thanked for what we do.

It's helping take all our rights away and making it easier to put all our confidential information in on place. Like the national ID. It's bad enough DMV makes us give our SS number when we get a drivers license or ID, which I thought they were only to use the SS for SS! Seems like the government has more power than the people. And that's not what America stands for! It stands for "We the People" not "We the Government"! And what happened to our Freedom? We'd rather be safe? I'd rather be free!
What did Caesar do to make the citizens give up all their rights by their own choice? Did he make them FEAR for their safety? He probably started homeland security!

That's a pretty broad question, but the short answer is yes. Without them, there's no telling the amount of contraband (drugs, guns) or ease with which undesirables could enter this country. However, they are merely a drop in the bucket. So much more needs to be done. Unfortunately, the political will is lacking, for fear of offending special interest groups.

This is an excellent question. I starred it. Unfortunately I don't have a real answer.
Maybe it's helping us by improving the economic welfare of the employees who work there and thereby improving the buying power in the communities where those folks live...thereby improving the economic growth of the Eastern seaboard...thereby...

If you take into consideration it makes US feel more safe when what most of US don't know is that there are 1200 terrorist groups in 150 cities w/weapons. The FBI knows, just like they had videos of most of the 9/11 crew and let it go, so don't we hope they have a better game play this time?

its mainly a system to share information...before 9/11 the system was fragmented to the point where different agencies were keeping info to themselves for territory purposes....somebody had to combine them and overcome 60 years worth of agency inertia...its not the best thing they could have done but its the best they could do in the time allowed....live with it
