Someone is wrong. Thor is god of thunder, not war. Tyr or Tieu was the god of war. Thor was the son of Odin king of the gods and a kind giantess. Odin wanted a strong son who could beat Giants. Dwarves Brock and Sindri were responsible for Mjolnor, Thor's magic hammer that treturned to his hand whenerver he threw it. It had a short handle, because evil Loki pestered Brock while he made the weapon. Thursday is Thor's day. He was also called Thunar and Donner. On the Day of Doom (Gotterdammerung or Ragnarok) Thor fights Jormungand the serpent that encircles Midgard and kills it, but the venom kills him too. No greater heroic feat can ever be done. Only Thor can kill Jormungand,.

Thor, in Norse mythology, the god of thunder, eldest son of Odin, ruler of the gods, and Jord, the earth goddess. Thor was the strongest of the Aesir, the chief gods, whom he helped protect from their enemies, the giants. He had a magic hammer, which he threw with the aid of iron gloves and which always returned to him. Thunder was supposed to be the sound of the rolling of his chariot. Thursday is named for Thor.

He is son to Odin and surpasses him in popularity because it is said he doesnt require human sacrifice (pro-human). He has a wife, a fertility goddess--Sif, I think--and a mistress. He has children (3) and is the god of thunder (and turf! hahaha), carries a hammer, looks ferocious, and during thunderstorms is believed to be pulled across the sky by goats. His hammer is call Mjollnir (did i get the spelling right, I wonder?). According to several accounts, he is the equivalent of of the Roman god, Jupiter. The comic book colors him a blonde but the Norse god is actually red-haired.

In the Norse pantheon, Thor is the God of War. He has a hammer which he throws at the Earth, causing lightning and thunder.
There is a legend that Thor came to Earth and saw a lovely maiden, and seduced her. Afterwards, he decided to announce his true self, hammered his chest and shouted "I AM THOR!"
The girl giggled, and said "Tho am I!"

I'm Ásatrú, Thor happens to be one of my Gods. :-) We call on him for protection, courage, and energy to face our own challenges, physical or spiritual. And when the jotnar are out of balance and a wildfire or storm approaches, we call on him to protect our homes. Despite Thor’s role as a fighter, however, he is not a war God, he is never shown as taking part in any battles of humans, he is a monster fighter only: the protector and friend of humankind.

Thor is one of the most popular and best loved of the Gods today. His hammer remains the symbol of the Heathen faith.

In the Eddas, Thor is presented as the strongest of the Gods, with a red beard, whose laughter rumbles like the thunder he rules. The rune most often associated with him is Thurisaz, whose sound begins his name. He drives a cart drawn by two goats, Tanngniostr and Tanngrisnir (tooth-grinder and tooth-nasher), and he is armed with his famous hammer, Mjolnir, which his belt of strength and iron gloves enable him to wield. His hall in Asgard is called Bilskirnir. His wife’s name is Sif, by whom he has a daughter named Thruth (which means strength).
